About ESA Science Programme

The ESA Science Programme has a long and successful history, starting with the Horizon 2000 Programme that lasted 20 years, from 1985–2005.

This was followed by the Horizon 2000+ Programme from 2005–2015, leading to the current Cosmic Vision Programme to 2025.

The missions of the Cosmic Vision Programme will provide answers to four fundamental questions of astronomy, Solar System science and fundamental science:

  • What are the conditions for planetary formation and the emergence of life?
  • How does the Solar System work?
  • What are the physical fundamental laws of the Universe?
  • How did the Universe originate and what is it made of?

The Science Programme funds the development of ESA Science Missions (such as JUICE, Comet Interceptor, Rosetta etc) and the Core Technology Programme (CTP).

Industry Day

On the 2nd of September, ESA will present the Science and Basic Activities programmes in detail and explain how Estonian Industry and Academia can increase their participation in the ESA Science and Basic Activities Programmes.

In addition, this will be an opportunity for Estonian Industry and Academia to showcase their capabilities to the relevant ESA programme managers, Large System Integrators (LSIs) and participants.

The information day will start with presentations from Estonian industry and academia on their capabilities relating to Space.

This will be followed by talks from ESA programme managers across Science and Basic Activities programmes, and LSIs (Thales Alenia Space & OHB).

The presentations will be followed by 1-2-1 meetings where Estonian entities can discuss potential collaboration directly with the relevant ESA programme managers and LSIs.
