About the event
Practical learning format
The workshop is built around hands-on group exercises and case studies based on real business situations. Participants will be divided into groups, with each group assigned a different design and product development challenge. Using role cards, participants will take on the perspectives of various stakeholders and work through scenarios from the viewpoints of the company, the design partner, and other project participants. The exercises make use of practical design strategy and design management tools.
The workshop aims to move the discussion beyond the traditional question of “What should the design look like?” and towards a strategic perspective: What problem does design solve within a company? When should a design partner be involved? How should collaboration be managed? And how can design become a measurable value-creating capability for a business?
- Introduction, participant networking, and group formation
- Practical group exercise I
- Lunch
- Short presentations of group results and joint discussion
- Practical group exercise II
- Preparation and presentation of final outcomes
- Summary: when and why challenges arise in collaboration between companies and design partners, and how to prevent them
Duration: approximately 4 hours
The workshop is primarily intended for:
- Leaders of industrial and technology companies, as well as professionals responsible for product development and innovation
- Design companies and designers working in industrial, product, and strategic design
- Companies looking to integrate design more systematically into product development and business strategy
An important aspect of the format is the creation of mixed groups, enabling design service providers and client companies to examine the same collaboration challenges from different perspectives.
Participating companies will receive de minimis aid. The value of the aid will not exceed €350 per company.
Adrián Larripa is an industrial designer, founder and CEO of the industrial design and product strategy consultancy bigD, co-founder of PACO Design Collaborative, and Assistant Professor at the University of Navarra.
He has extensive international experience in design engineering and product development, including key roles in Italy and the United Kingdom. His work focuses on combining user-centred research, industrial design, and hardware manufacturing.
Over the past decade, he has led the physical design and development of complex industrial machinery and high-tech hardware solutions. His work has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Red Dot Award, iF Design Award, German Design Award, and Good Design Award.
He is currently pursuing doctoral research focused on the integration of artificial intelligence into industrial design workflows.
At the conference “Intangible Assets: The Engine of Business Growth”, taking place on 8 October 2026, workshop facilitator Adrián Larripa will also be a featured speaker.
16:00-16:45 Deep Technology Beyond Technology: The Strategic Value of Design
The presentation will showcase real-world examples of advanced industrial and technology products, demonstrating how design helps create differentiation, increase the value of intellectual property (IP), and support business success.
