Major events

The grant for major events is intended for cultural or sporting events of international interest. You can apply for the grant for events that take place in three consecutive years for three years at a time. The project must contribute to revitalising the tourism sector and increasing the recognition of Estonia as a travel destination.

The event must last at least three consecutive days and have a single programme. Over three years, the event must bring together at least 2,000 foreign visitors if it takes place in Tallinn, or at least 1,000 foreign visitors if it takes place outside of Tallinn.
The minimum grant amount over a period of three years is 140,000 euros and the maximum amount 235,000 euros.
Projects must be completed no later than 31.10.2029.

Who is the grant intended for?

The grant can be applied for by the organiser of a major event, who is either:

  • a legal person registered in Estonia – such as entrepreneurs, non-profit associations, foundations
  • a local authority and its agency
  • an Estonian public authority

What events do we support?

You can apply for a grant for a major international event

  • that contributes to the revitalisation of the tourism sector and increases the recognition of Estonia as a travel destination
  • that takes place in Estonia and is of interest to an international target group
  • that brings together at least 2,000 foreign visitors in Tallinn or at least 1,000 foreign visitors outside Tallinn over a period of three years
  • that lasts for at least three consecutive days, has a single programme with substantive activities for each day
  • that follows the principles of sustainability, accessibility, gender equality and equal treatment
  • the marketing activities of which are planned to be carried out in at least one foreign market
  • that includes providing information on tourism opportunities in Estonia
  • for which a grant application has been submitted at least 4 months before the major event of the first year
  • which involves at least two small and medium-sized enterprises serving foreign visitors
  • where the grant beneficiary refers to visitestonia.com before and during the event in the event’s marketing channels and at the event venue

What activities do we support?

  • Preparation and marketing of major event marketing activities abroad
  • transport and accommodation costs for persons involved in the organisation of a major event coming from abroad before or during the event
  • transport and accommodation costs for foreign journalists covering the major event
  • costs related to international television and webcasting
  • costs related to the organisation and servicing of the major event
  • the costs of collecting and analysing statistics and feedback from visitors of the major event
  • the costs of complying with the publicity requirements resulting from receiving the grant.

The grant can not be used for:

  • catering expenses
  • costs for the development of a new website
  • cost of marketing materials in Estonian
  • the purchase of advertising space
  • transport and accommodation costs for athletes/competitors
  • souvenirs, gifts
  • expenditure on publications and other handouts distributed locally
  • activities that are unjustified or insignificant from the point of view of the implementation of the project.
