Companies developing innovative technologies often need access to infrastructure (such as laboratories or pilot production), equipment, services, or expertise. EIS services and networks help companies find the necessary resources and, if needed, provide guidance during negotiations, for example with universities or research institutions.

  • EIS development cooperation experts help companies define their needs, identify the required resources and contacts in Estonia or internationally, and establish connections.
  • Development advisors are specialists affiliated with industry and company associations who have the best overview of members’ capabilities and needs. They also facilitate relevant contacts and inquiries between companies and research institutions.
  • The Estonian research institutions network ADAPTER
provides access through a single contact point and helps search for suitable tools or services.

Companies often need expert assistance. Together with our partners in Estonia and internationally, we help identify the necessary expertise, provide support for using their services, and offer opportunities to recruit them.

For companies developing innovative products or technologies and aiming to maintain or increase their differentiation and/or competitiveness in international markets, effective management and protection of intellectual property (IP) is an essential skill.

  • Through the EIS strategic IP advisory service
, our experienced specialists help companies identify their IP, develop protection strategies, find suitable experts and service providers on the private market, and negotiate IP-related matters with licensing partners or, for example, universities and research institutions.
  • Through technology intelligence services
, we assist companies in evaluating the innovativeness of their development, the intensity of technological competition, protection possibilities, and freedom to operate (FTO) concerning third-party IP using data analysis.
  • The Estonian Patent Office advises companies on the technical aspects of IP protection and registers IP rights in Estonia.
  • Estonian patent attorneys provide companies with services for preparing, filing, and managing IP protection applications, including associated advisory services, such as trademark and design protection.

Understanding your market and customers, and having an appropriate market entry strategy, are essential for a company’s success. EIS and our partners help companies conduct market and competitor analyses, identify clients, and enter new markets.

  • Through technology intelligence services, we assist companies in evaluating the innovativeness of their development, the intensity of technological competition, protection possibilities, and freedom to operate (FTO) concerning third-party IP using data analysis.
  • EIS export department experts help companies explore target markets, open doors to partners and clients, and, if needed, guide them to suitable financing.

Innovating, developing science-intensive solutions, and creating “real-world” products is neither cheap nor fast, which makes it sensible to use unconventional tools when developing related business models. EIS is piloting the application of the “Disciplined Entrepreneurship” methodology, developed at MIT, within the Estonian innovation and deep tech ecosystem. You can explore the methodology and its materials in more detail on the methodology’s website d-eship.com.

Accelerators provide startups with working space, administrative support, networking, mentors, and other resources that help companies grow faster. In Estonia, the following organizations focus on innovative and knowledge-intensive companies:

  • Tehnopol Science and Business Park supports early-stage and growing technology companies. The Tehnopol campus is located in Mustamäe, Tallinn. Tehnopol also hosts DIANA, NATO’s defense technology accelerator.
  • Tartu Science Park offers incubation, business development, and office rental services for knowledge-intensive companies. The park’s community includes many of Estonia’s leading deep-tech startups and scale-ups. It also hosts ESA BIC, the European Space Agency accelerator.

Although Estonia is small, it is powerful, and several private equity-based angel and venture investors operate here, helping companies with world-changing technologies and products to grow.
